KP- he knows secrets that have never been told

Two weeks earlier, he had been declared successor to the late Velupillai Prabhakaran as leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The man with many names, different faces at different times held several passports. Law enforcement agencies of a number of countries hunted for him but he eluded them. For years, he headed the LTTE's weapons procurement operations, named after his initials as KP wing.

Child soldiers fight LTTE ghosts

Kumudha absent-mindedly fiddles with her left forefinger. Then, looking embarrassed, she hurriedly tucks it into the folds of her skirt. She often forgets that she has no forefinger. Only a stub.

The finger was sliced off by a sniper's bullet while she was guarding an LTTE bunker in Konavil village in Kilinochchi in 2008. Heavy fighting had broken out as the Sri Lankan army pushed ahead in the north. This was just a couple of months after bullets pierced her right thigh and she was hospitalized.

Lessons from Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka recently emerged victorious from one of the world's longest-running conflicts, once termed an "unwinnable" war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), also known as the Tamil Tigers.

The LTTE is considered one of the deadliest terrorist groups, having invented the concept of the modern-day suicide bomber and carried out the murder of two sitting heads of state. In addition, the Tamil Tigers pioneered use of female suicide bombers, homemade minisubmarines, ultralight aircraft and "warehouse ships" pre-positioned on the high seas to resupply terrorist operations on shore.

Tamil protest ends after 73 days

A 73-day protest involving thousands of people demonstrating over the plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka has ended.

The protest featured hunger strikes, mass sit-ins blocking central London roads and people throwing themselves into the River Thames.

One of those involved, Ambi Seevaratnam said: "After 73 days, nothing has worked. The Tamils have been betrayed by the international community."

Protesters have at times clashed with police in Parliament Square.

Last month, a senior Metropolitan Police officer warned the long protest was diverting resources from other areas.
